I still remember the feeling of leaving home and being afraid of not finding friends in Toronto. The thought of being alone was the worst. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed about going to explore the world from the inside, learning different cultures and people. Learning myself to adapt into a new country and see how that works. So, to the little girl that dreamed about that, WE DID IT!

Even though I got all the fear of not belonging, I met three girls on one of my first days in Toronto.

From the left Ji 🇰🇷, Juliette 🇫🇷, me 🇩🇰 and Mar 🇳🇱 at the bottom.

Let me introduce you guys to them. First, we have Jiwon, also known as Ji. She’s from South Korea, and what a delight to know her. Then we have Juliette, and she’s from France. The always goofy girl. And last, we have Marloes, also known as Mar. She’s from the Netherlands and is just as crazy as me!

I have enjoyed the last four months with these girls, getting to know them better and become closer was so nice. Getting to know about the different cultures even though some of our countries are close. (Sorry Ji, you are on the other side of the globe than us European girls🥺). Just the language itself has been fun to learn. To pronounce “Bonjour” correct, or at least close, to how you say “Vand” in Danish. We got each other some nicknames, but that’s not for the internet.

We have been out a lot together. Eating, drinking beer, but also got to see baseball, a hockey match, exploring the city, going to the club and so many other things. We even got to celebrate both Mar‘s and Ji‘s birthdays.

We’ve always joked about that when the end of this semester is near, we should go out and celebrate, and then we should do speeches. But yesterday we had our last meeting where we all could be together. NONE of us could do the speech because we were too sad about not seeing each other again. So that is for another day. We agreed that it was not a goodbye forever, but a see you soon.

So, girls the speech from me, you get here. Then I can soak the keyboard without you knowing.

Thank you so much for everything we have done together and thank you for being there when everything felt like a big heavy stone. Thank you for all the laughter and smiles, the beers and enjoyment. For letting me into your lives and learning about where you come from and your culture. For taking me as I am and still liking me. Yeah, she can be that deep. I love you girls, or as we say in Denmark; Jeg elsker jer!

I will look back at this time and feel the joy and excitement like the day Mar jumped from the big bench at the harbour.
